TUESDAY, Aug. 30, 2022 (HealthDay News) — Customers who purchased a bestselling mattress bought on Amazon and at retailers nationwide are suing the producer amid claims that fiberglass fibers within the product have broken their well being.
Zinus, Inc., is fielding a number of lawsuits over its “Green Tea Mattress.” Among the claims is a proposed class-action lawsuit led by a California lady who’s representing a number of thousand folks.
“It’s not hyperbole to say that this has ravaged 1000’s of people’ lives from throughout the United States,” James Radcliffe, a private harm lawyer with Cueto Law, advised the Los Angeles Times.
Radcliffe’s agency began a 2020 lawsuit on behalf of Amanda Chandler and Robert Durham of Illinois, who mentioned they spent months in a lodge and paid greater than $20,000 in skilled mediation providers after a Zinus reminiscence foam mattress bought at Walmart for his or her youngster contaminated their dwelling with fiberglass in 2019.
Another lady, Vanessa Gutierrez of Los Angeles, advised the Times that the mattress she purchased for her 4-year-old daughter had price her almost $20,000 in damages and left scars from the fiberglass on the woman’s chest and calves.
One reviewer on Amazon warned that they unzipped the outer cowl of the mattress and “unleashed [an] invisible fiberglass storm into our home,” CBS News reported.
A consultant from Zinus advised CBS News that the fiberglass is “normal within the mattress business” and is not thought-about hazardous by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
“Most client complaints about fiberglass being launched from mattresses which have been reviewed by workers concerned the outer cowl being eliminated or broken. If the outer cowl stays intact, then the publicity to fiberglass particles is anticipated to be minimal,” the CSPC advised CBS News.
California’s Department of Public Health performed a research revealed within the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in February discovering that fiberglass fibers had “a possible danger of client publicity if the zipper on the outer cowl is opened.”
Fiberglass is a less expensive fire-retardant materials. The queen-sized Green Tea reminiscence foam mattress sells for about $310 on Amazon. It contains directions warning clients to not take away the outer mattress cowl, to guard the fireplace barrier inside, Zinus advised CBS News.
Amazon didn’t reply to CBS News’ requests for remark. Walmart did and famous that it and different retailers have been dropped from the preliminary lawsuit.
